Education Support Team at CIUUSD-Grand Isle

Special Education K-3

Sydney Scott, Special Educator

Special Education supports students with a variety of challenges including physical, mental, emotional and learning disabilities. We will work with each student, their teachers, support staff, and parents to create individual learning plans to help students achieve their learning targets in a positive and engaging environment.

Speech and Language

James Vogl, SLP
svogl@gisu.org

SLPs work with children with all sorts of communication challenges including making sure your message is easily understood (producing speech sounds correctly, using proper grammar and vocabulary, speaking is a respectful manner, etc), and understanding what is being said to you or what you’re reading (interpreting the message correctly, comprehending what you’re reading, being an active and respectful listener, etc.). SLPs work with teachers, parents, and others in a school to ensure that children are getting the support that they need.

I am passionate in that no student should be left behind their peers. To help with this I work directly with students for speech and language therapy as well as doing screenings, evaluations and case management.
Outside of school I enjoy playing Sudoku, eating popcorn, spending time with my family,  running, bicycling, kayaking, and hiking (especially during the winter).

Special Education 4-6

Jeremy Grenon, Special Educator

Special Education supports students with a variety of challenges including physical, mental, emotional and learning disabilities. We will work with each student, their teachers, support staff, and parents to create individual learning plans to help students achieve their learning targets in a positive and engaging environment.

Math Intervention

Erin Oliver, Math Interventionist
Math Intervention directly supports students in achieving their grade targets utilizing personalized lessons, small group support during WIN time, and working closely with teachers in the classroom setting to ensure that all students are receiving high quality instruction that meets the learning needs of each student.
You can also find Ms Oliver (and Ozzie fo course!) coaching our girls team on the soccer field each fall!

Reading Intervention

Kate Merola, Reading Interventionish
Reading Intervention supports students in building their basic literacy skills including learning letters and sounds, phoneme segmentation and comprehension of texts. Your students may work with our interventionist during WIN time, individually or in small groups, or during classroom instruction. Our interventionist works closely with teachers and students to ensure that all students are receiving high quality instruction tailored to their instructional level as they work toward grade targets.

Mrs. Merola was previously a 5th grade teacher at Grand Isle and she is excited to be working with students in all the grades this year!
